Our Ilocos Adventure - Cape Bojeador Lighthouse, Bangui Wind Farm, Pagudpud, Paoay

Cape Bojeador Lighthouse (Burgos Lighthouse)

Is a cultural heritage structure in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, that was established during the Spanish Colonial period in the Philippines. It was first lit on March 30, 1892, and is set high on Vigia de Nagpartian Hill overlooking the scenic Cape Bojeador where early galleons used to sail by. After over 100 years, it still functions as a welcoming beacon to the international ships that enter the Philippine Archipelago from the north and guide them safely away from the rocky coast of the town. It was its scheduled repair when we went there, that's why there were scaffolding's around the tower. If you're lucky, you'll find one of the workers taking a nap. :)

Unfortunately, I was not able to take a clear solo picture of the whole lighthouse structure due to so many tourists that time.

The photo on the left was taken in the van while on our way to Pagudpud.

Bangui Wind Farm

Is a wind farm in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. The wind farm uses 20 units of 70-metre (230 ft) high Vestas V82 1.65 MW wind turbines, arranged on a single row stretching along a nine-kilometer shoreline off Bangui Bay, facing the West Philippine Sea.

The Northwind Bangui Bay Project is located at the municipality of Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. Located at the north-west tip of Luzon island, the windmills face the sea from where the wind blows towards the land. Its location along the shore is optimal in removing windbreaks and has a terrain roughness of 0. The site is free of any trees and vegetation, and stretches approximately 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) long and 100 metres (330 ft) wide. The area is undeveloped and uninhabited making it ideal as a site and poses no threat to the environment. (wiki)

It's not everyday you see windmill up close and personal and it was bigger than I thought. As Bentong says "Amazing!"

I have been fascinated with windmills since I was a child, and it was really awesome experience to see these sleeping giants in front of me. Hope that it will be fully operated and maximized soon, so it can help to our energy/power crisis.

Pagudpud

One of the municipalities of Ilocos Norte known for its beautiful beaches, the Patapat Viaduct, Bantay Abot, etc.

This place is where I got to finish my unfinished business.    More than 15 years ago, a girlfriend of mine (a local of Ilocos Sur), once told me that she would tour me to Pagudpud (first time I heard of it), she told me how beautiful it was like any other places I've been. Since then I was hoping that when I can visit this place.

Although, it didn't materials with her. It was God's perfect time to visit this place with my family. :)

Bantay Abot "Big Rock with Hole"

Blue Lagoon

Located at Baranggay Balaoi, Malingay, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.

Very nice view, clean and blue beach as Boracay.

However, it was very hot time. As I remember, the temperature was 39°C.

Patapat Viaduct

The Patapat Viaduct is a viaduct at the municipality of Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, a coastal resort town on the northernmost tip of Luzon Island in the Philippines.

The bridge is elevated 31 meters over sea level. It is a concrete coastal bridge 1.3 km long and connects the Maharlika Highway from Laoag, Ilocos Norte to the Cagayan Valley Region. It rises along the town's coastal mountains, which is the starting point of the Cordillera Mountain Range that snakes through Northern Luzon. It is the 4th longest bridge in the Philippines. Kapurpurawan Rock Formation

Kapurpurawan Rocks are rock formations created by forces of the ocean on the rocky coast of Burgos, located just a few minutes further from the lighthouse. A 3 km road away from the national road, you can either walk or rent a horse to take you there. However, we were prevented to go near to the formation.

Paoay Church

I'm not a Roman Catholic but I'm a fan of old churches.
Finally, goodbye to post cards and calendars, Paoay Church up close and personal.

The Saint Augustine Church, commonly known as the Paoay Church, is the Roman Catholic parish church of the municipality of Paoay, Ilocos Norte in the Philippines. Completed in 1710, the church is famous for its distinct architecture highlighted by the enormous buttresses on the sides and back of the building. It is declared as a National Cultural Treasure by the Philippine government in 1973 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the collective group of Baroque Churches of the Philippines in 1993.
